Hot Spot is a first time mold, but will likely be used for Combaticon Onslaught with cannons in place of his ladder

Vehicle Mode: As I said above, Hot Spot’s design is greatly influenced by the need for him to be remolded into Onslaught.  That said, he really looks amazing.  You can’t see Defensor’s head at all.  It’s made of three parts and flips over itself, hiding the face between the parts.  He’s got nice paint apps including the Fire Rescue Autobot logo.

Robot Mode: Hot Spot is amazing in robot mode.  He’s got the red and silver striping, really great paint apps.  He has his two guns like the G1 and a perfect head sculpt.  Unfortunately, he has one design flaw.  Inside his lower leg, his upper leg has three joints to facilitate folding it up for transformation and combining.  Unfortunately it doesn’t lock in place.  When his upper leg is pulled up all the way, it should lock beneath the knee joint to his lower leg.  The joints inside his leg are not strong enough to hold his upper body, which has a lot of weight due to the ladder.  This makes him fall over.  You really have to balance him on his knee joints to keep him standing up.  These joints cause a similar problem when combined into Defensor.  When Hot Spot’s upper leg is folded into his lower leg, it doesn’t lock, so when you pick up Defensor by his upper body, his legs tend to swing out of place.

Overall: Not a perfect toy, but it looks fantastic.  I will be keeping an eye out for an alteration to the mold to fix the problem with his legs in later cases, but I won’t be holding my breath.

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
